Lieutenant James Stewart presents his buddy with an Oscar in 1942 for Sergeant York. Nineteen years later, with my father to ill to attend the Academy Swards, Jimmy Stewart held Poppa’s Honourary Oscar for “many memorable screen performances,” accepting it for him on TV and saying, “We’re all proud of you, Coop. We’re all so very proud.” Jimmy started to break down, and that was the first that the public knew that “Coop” was getting ready for his last ride home.
